The Event

The Gospel Weekend arrives to France! Don’t miss this special edition of the Gospel Weekendfrom 19th to 21st April 2019 in Montpellier, where you will enjoy Gospel Workshops with Fred Lewin (renowned French Gospel Composer and conductor of GN/AS Gospel, the largest gospel choir of the country!),  Daniel Thomas (United Kingdom, former director of the London Community Gospel Choir and the Grammy Award winners Love Fellowship Choir) and Joakim Arenius (Sweden, one of the most recognised European gospel composers and choir conductors of Northern Europe).

Enjoy this 4th Edition of one of the most special gospel music meetings, for the first time in Montpellier. Live, sing and experience, the power, the feelings and the fun of sharing the Gospel with three of the best Gospel Choir conductors in Europe with a marvelous and thrilling final concert all together.

The roots of the Gospel Music come from the USA, but the European Gospel is taking this heritage and making it evolve at the other side of the ocean too. Be part of the conversation and make history: the Gospel is more alive than ever in Europe!

The Artists

Fred Lewin (France)

Fred, with his funny character and powerful voice will make you have a good time discovering his interpretation of the Gospel. 

Born in France and son of an English Pastor, Fred is an unconventional composer, singer and gospel choirs conductor who won’t leave you indifferent. With his funny character and powerful voice is a veteran in the international gospel scene, singing his message for 20 years now, in front of GN/AS Gospel, the largest Gospel Choir of France (+150 singers). He travels around Europe with his voice technique and gospel Masterclasses, presenting his personal project, FredL Gospel, and touring all over France and internationally with his choir and his last work: The ReLOVution Tour.

His musical quality is comparable to his goodness, always involved in charity causes bringing a message of hope to those who need it the most.

In his workshops and through his music, he communicates positivity, happiness, euphoria, and also releases his sorrows. His music is definitely is a balm for the soul.

Daniel Thomas (United Kingdom)

His extensive list of attributes – singer, songwriter, vocal coach, vocal arranger, choir director, backing vocalist and keyboardist, in the genres of dance, gospel, soul, pop, funk, jazz, rock and classical makes him a very talented and complete musician that will make you enjoy a unique workshop

Daniel Thomas is an internationally recognized multi-faceted, multi-dimensional, multi-talented bohemian, with choral directing experience that spans over 30 years. 

Music has always played a big part in his life from the very early age of five, where he started playing the piano at home. It was soon recognized that he had a natural talent for music and so was encouraged to play in church services. During his teenage years, hespread his wings to playing, singing and directing other local choirs and groups and was soon in high demand.

Daniel has been vocal coach for the X Factor and The Voice UK, backing vocalist for artists like Elton John, Luther Vandross, James Brown, Cher, Lionel Richie, Sting or Mariah Carey and has served as the choir director of The London Community Gospel choir – with which he toured extensively, along with many other choirs both in the UK and abroad, including the Grammy Award winning Love Fellowship Choir (New York) and the International Mass Choir (900 voices) in Stockholm, 2010.

Joakim Arenius (Sweden)

Joakim, with his calm and sensitivity, will guide you through a gospel journey between his original and powerful compositions.

Joakim has served as choir director, composer, music producer and artist since the early 90’s. He started singing in Joybells, Europe’s oldest gospel choir, at the age of 16, and became the choir’s director ten years later. In 2004 he founded Praise Unit -a group of singers and musicians from various backgrounds and different parts of Sweden who shares Joakim’s desire to spread the music and the message of gospel beyond the usual expectations.

During 2000-2001 he was music minister in New York City and founded Salem Outreach Singers. Since 2003 he has been working with Creative Kirche from Germany who manages his work as workshop leader in the german speaking countries.

Gospel Music Workshop of America has invited Joakim to teach his songs at several occasions, and also recorded his music. Joakim is continually networking with churches, artists and choirs in many parts of the world. Since 2010 the establishing of gospel music in Russia is a major part of his calling.

  • 17h to 18.45h: Registration and accreditations.
  • 19 to 22h: Welcome and workshop with Fred Lewin, Daniel Thomas and Joakim Arenius.


  • 10h to 13h: Workshop 1
  • 15h to 18h: Workshop 2


  • 10h to 13h: Gospel Workshop 3
  • 15h to 17h General Rehearsal with the 3 conductors
  • 18.30h Final Concert of the Gospel Weekend

Please note that times are provisional and may be subject to change. Final times will be informed to all the participants.The workshops on Friday and Saturday will be held at Le Corum, Salon du Belvedere (Allee Autasi), and the workshop and concert on Sunday will be held at Le Maison des Choeurs (1, Place Albert 1er) .
